Leroy Shingoitewa: The truth on Hopi Tribe's financial trouble





"As the Chairman of the Hopi Tribe, I feel compelled to respond to a recent article published in the Navajo-Hopi Observer, which casts blame upon me and my office as the cause of the tribe's financial problems, and suggests that I have been hiding information. The article ran in the newspaper after I commissioned an investigation to analyze and review the status of the Finance Department. The investigation, conducted by Henry & Horne, LLP, a certified public accounting firm, identified several longstanding issues - issues that predate my election as the Chairman. Yet, the article infers I am to blame. As Chairman, it is my duty to ensure that the information being disseminated to the public is not misleading. Below is an accurate record of the tribe's current financial troubles. "
