Prosecutor says Barona Band hindered murder investigation

A prosecutor in California is accusing the Barona Band of Mission Indians of hindering a murder investigation.

Stanley Virgil Lloyd Jr., 19, a tribal member, is accused of shooting and killing 17-year-old Christopher Carioscia in October 2010. During closing arguments, a prosecutor said the tribe failed to turn over evidence and said a tribal security officer lied on the stand.

"Why would the tribal security officer lie? Because of what he's supposed to do. He's supposed to do favors for tribal members," Deputy District Attorney David Williams III told the jury, The Ramona Patch reported.

Closing arguments continue today. Lloyd faces 50 years in prison if convicted.
