Tipi to remain at Occupy Lincoln camp after police discussions

An 18-foot tipi will remain at the Occupy Lincoln camp after discussions with local police.

Police were concerned that the tipi might fall over. But organizers addressed safety concerns at a meeting yesterday, The Lincoln Journal Star reported.

"It's impossible to tip that cone over," Bill Hawkins, who owns the tipi and has set it up at events across the state. "These things survived prairie winters and plains winds for hundreds of years."

Hawkins said tipi represents the oppression of indigenous people in the U.S.
