Pala Band affirms ruling to remove eight people as members

The Pala Band of Mission Indians of California says eight people who were removed from the rolls failed to file an appeal on time.

Chairman Robert Smith said the group should have filed an appeal with the tribal council. Instead it was filed with the Bureau of Indian Affairs.

"Ultimately, issues such as these are the purview of the tribe," spokesperson Doug Elmets told The North County Times.

The BIA, however, says it will review the appeal.
