Umatilla group puts focus on education in 'Occupy' protest

Education is the theme of an "Occupy" protest taking place at the headquarters of the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Reservation in Oregon.

The protest started on Tuesday with upwards of 25 people, The East Oregonian. About 6 of them camped out for the night and they vowed to remain on site through today.

"Turn off the lights at night, spend that money on books," protesters chanted, the paper said.

The group wants to ensure the tribe's charter school receives sufficient funds. The protesters are critical of a six-week severance package that school board trustees awarded themselves.
