Former leader of Tonkawa Tribe pleads not guilty for theft

Anthony E. Street, the former president of the Tonkawa Tribe of Oklahoma, pleaded not guilty to charges that he and other tribal leaders stole more than $500,000 from the tribe.

Street, 47, ran the tribe from April 2005 to April 2008. Federal prosecutors say he wrote checks to himself from the tribe's general fund.

During the same time, former vice president Gordon L. Warrior, and former secretary-treasure Dawena Pappan also wrote checks to themselves, according to prosecutors. Both have pleaded guilty.

Street faces one conspiracy count and 16 embezzlement counts.
