County official opposes Sycuan Band land-into-trust application

The Sycuan Band of Kumeyaay Indians is seeing opposition to its land-into-trust application.

The tribe wants 1,357 acres in trust for an equestrian center, RV park, powwow grounds and a country club. But San Diego County will lose out on $679,848 in property and other taxes if that happens, according to supervisor Dianne Jacob.

The tribe has offered to mitigate the loss of tax revenue and has asked to meet Jacob. But she has refused, a spokesperson said.

"We had to move forward," Adam Day told NBC San Diego. "We weren't going to allow her to hold us hostage."
