Rosebud Sioux Tribe receives $7M grant for veterans cemetery

The Rosebud Sioux Tribe of South Dakota has received a $7 million grant to build the first veterans cemetery in Indian Country.

The tribe is the first receive money from the Department of Veterans Affairs for a cemetery. Previously, only states could seek grants.

The facility, to be located on a 74-acre site, would be similar to other national cemeteries but the tribe hopes to incorporate Lakota elements into the design.
