House committee supports Alaska Native corporation land bill

The House Natural Resources Committee voted 34-10 in favor of H.R.1408, the Southeast Alaska Native Land Entitlement Finalization and Jobs Protection Act.

Sealaska, an Alaska Native regional corporation, is entitled to land under the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act of 1971. The corporation hasn't been able to complete its selection due to land restrictions and other concerns.

H.R.1408 finalizes Sealaska's land selection. The bill has generated significant controversy in the last two sessions of Congress.

The Senate version, S.730, is still pending before the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee.
