Indian woman walks 800-mile journey from Alabama to Oklahoma

An Indian woman with Cherokee, Lakota and Blackfeet ancestry recently completed an 800-mile walk from Alabama to Oklahoma.

Belinda Miller, 56, felt compelled to retrace the Trail of Tears. Three months ago, she left her home in Alabama, pulling a 150-pound buggy with her belongings -- including a cat and a dog -- and camping along the way.

"I didn't feel half the pain they went through, but I touched on it," Miller told FOX23 News. "It made me cry, I cried a lot on the trail."

Miller finally made it to Tahlequah, the capitol of the Cherokee Nation. A friend was supposed to pick her up but that didn't happen.

Instead she met Rhonda Swimmer, who plans to drive Miller back to Alabama.
