Southern Ute Tribe sets grand opening for $38M museum

The Southern Ute Tribe of Colorado will welcome the public to its $38 million museum this weekend.

The Southern Ute Cultural Center and Museum features exhibits on tribal culture, language and history. "The museum has been designed so that the story of the Southern Ute people will always be told and remembered,” executive director Lynn Brittner told The Durango Herald.

The opening exhibit includes items from the tribe's collection of 1,500 artifacts, as well as never-before seen items from the National Museum of the American Indian.
