Seminole Nation reports investigations for multiple threats

Federal and tribal authorities are investigating multiple threats against the Seminole Nation, Principal Chief Leonard M. Harjo said.

One person has been detained in connection with threats made against tribal buildings and tribal officials council following a general council meeting on April 30. The threats were made inside the Mekusukey Mission Council House.

“As government officials, we can’t afford to put people’s lives in danger. We can’t take that risk,” Harjo said. “That means any statements of that nature will be transmitted to the proper authorities.”

The tribe's Lighthorse Police Department and the Bureau of Indian Affairs are handling the investigation, Harjo said. It's separate from an FBI probe into possible threats against the CFR Court of the Seminole Nation.

“We are participating in the investigation to the extent we can,” said Harjo.
