The Blue Lake Rancheria of California has passed an ordinance to regulate the sale of raw milk on the reservation.
The tribe has contracted with Organic Pastures Dairy to supply raw milk to stores on the reservation. The product is otherwise not available in Humboldt County.
"The council decided to offer raw milk because many of the tribal members were raised on raw milk, and they wanted to make it available for those who wish to drink it,” spokesperson Jana Ganion told The Eureka Times-Standard.
The ordinance requires the display of a sign to warn purchasers about potential health risks from raw milk.
