President of Rosebud Sioux Tribe disputes allegations in recall

The leader of the Rosebud Sioux Tribe of South Dakota is fighting an attempt to oust him from office.

A petition filed earlier this month accuses President Rodney Bordeaux of mismanaging tribal funds and of violating the tribal constitution. He said the accusations are being made by political rivals who are trying to take advantage of an upcoming election.

"Understandably, every government has its detractors and Rosebud is no different and even more so since 2011 is an election year for some on our council," Bordeaux said in a press release.

Bordeaux's opponents are trying to gather at least 800 signatures for their petition.
