Red Lake Nation prepares to start TANF cash program next year
The Red Lake Nation is expected to run its own Temporary Assistance to Needy Families program, according to officials in Beltrami County, Minnesota.

The tribe will handle emergency cash assistance requests for its members, starting January 1, 2011. The program was previously handled by the county.

“Tribes by law can establish their own program," said John Pugleasa, of the county's Health and Human Services Department, The Bemidji Pioneer reported.

The tribe will be working directly with the state to handle TANF program funds
