IRS broadens demand for Miccosukee Tribe financial documents
The Internal Revenue Service has widened its demand for financial documents from the Miccosukee Tribe of Florida, The Miami Herald reports.

The IRS has been investigating former chairman Billy Cypress to determine whether he reported all of his income. Now the agency wants "all documents pertaining to the Miccosukee Tribe in any capacity," according to a court filing.

"They believe Billy Cypress is the tip of the iceberg,'' tax attorney David Garvin, who is not involved in the case, told the paper. "These investigations typically go in waves, and in this case the wave is getting bigger and bigger."

A judge has already ordered the tribe to turn over documents related to Cypress. Tribal attorneys say the new request is too broad.
