Moapa Band of Paiutes lose battle against landfill at power plant

The Southern Nevada Health District voted 8-4 to approve the expansion of a landfill at a power plant next to the reservation of the Moapa Band of Paiute Indians.

Tribal members complained of pollution from the NV Energy station. They wanted the board to study the health and environmental effects of the landfill.

"It's always David and Goliath," Chairman Darren Daboda told The Las Vegas Review-Journal. "We always feel like we're low on the totem pole."

NV Energy says the current landfill will run out of space in 2.5 years.
