The Washoe Tribe has elected Wanda Batchelor as chairman.
Batchelor defeated incumbent Waldo Walker and former chair Vernon Wyatt for the post.
"History has been made as the first female to be elected tribal chairman for the Washoe Tribe of Nevada and California,” Batchelor told The Gardnerville Record-Courier.
Tribal members ousted nearly every incumbent from office except one council member.
