Column: Morongo Band in negotiations to purchase golf course

"This week's rumblings in Beaumont are true. A deal is pending for the purchase of the East Valley Golf Club by the Morongo Band of Mission Indians.

"We have reopened escrow and are currently working through the process," Michael Fisher, a Morongo spokesman, confirmed in an e-mail message.

"The golf course is a fantastic facility and we are excited about the opportunity of adding it to the family of amenities we already offer our resort patrons."

The pending sale is an important development because East Valley is a centerpiece of newer golf course neighborhoods in west Beaumont. If Morongo tribal officials treat the courses like the Soboba Band of Luiseño Indian's improvements to their Country Club at Soboba Springs in San Jacinto, a sale likely would be a plus for Beaumont."
