The principal of a public school on the Fort Peck Reservation in Montana will stay in her job after facing criticism for publicly singling out students who were failing.

The school board voted 4-0 to keep Patricia Black at the Poplar Middle School. "Poplar realizes the seriousness of the issue and we are taking steps to rectify it," Superintendent Charles Cook said a meeting, The Great Falls Tribune reported.

At a school assembly on September 27, Black called out a group of students. After the others left, she said she gave them a private pep talk but parents accused her of subjecting their children to public humiliation and shame.

The school said it will offer counseling to students who were affected by the incident.
