Makah Nation receives $50K grant for study of marine mammals
The Makah Nation of Washington has received a $50,868 grant from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration to study stranded marine mammals.

The tribe started an office after noticing a growing number of mammals washing ashore. In the last three years, over 30 a year have become stranded on the reservation, a biologist said.

The tribe's office is part of a nationwide network that studies stranded marine mammals.
