School won't allow student to wear Keetoowah Band sweatshirt
A public school in Austin, Texas, won't let a student wear a sweatshirt with her tribe's emblem.

Victoria Mouse is a member of the United Keetoowah Band of Cherokee Indians in Oklahoma. She was told her sweatshirt featureas a "religious" symbol.

"This is a part of me. It’s religious. All the other kids have crosses and it shows that Jesus died for them. Well, my ancestors died so I could be here," eighth-grade student Victoria told KEYE-TV.

Covington Middle School principal Candace Hughs said students can wear "clothign with a religious theme" if they submit it for prior approval.
