Santee Sioux woman wins support to work on human rights panel
Karen Mackey, a member of the Santee Sioux Tribe, won unanimous support to stay on as director of the Sioux City Human Rights Commission.

Mackey faced criticism about some of her recent actions . But community members and tribal activists defended her work.

Mackey believes some more conservative members of the commission may have tried to oust her because she recently married her partner. Same-sex marriage is legal in Iowa.
