Nebraska governor disclaims responsibility over Whiteclay liquor
Nebraska Gov. Dave Heineman (R) is rejecting responsibility for liquor problems in the town of Whiteclay.

Four stores in the town sell millions of cans of beer a year, mainly to residents of the nearby Pine Ridge Reservation. Members of the Oglala Sioux Tribe and others have raised concerns about health, safety and other problems but Heineman doesn't seem to want to do anything about it.

“The Indians are coming from Pine Ridge, and that’s in South Dakota," Heineman's spokesperson told Indian Country Today.

The Pine Ridge Reservation mostly lies in South Dakota. But it does extend into Nebraska and the border is not far from Whiteclay.
