Reward doubled over derailment attempt on Seneca Nation land
The FBI is offering a $20,000 reward for information about an attempt to derail an Amtrak passenger train on Seneca Nation land.

Someone placed a barricade of railroad ties on the track on the morning of July 5. The train operator was able to slow down before hitting them, resulting in damage to the train, which was carrying 354 passengers.

Authorities have met with Seneca Nation leaders to discuss the incident. They say the tribe is cooperating with the investigation.

Speculation has linked the crime to the new Prevent All Cigarette Trafficking Act. Authorities have declined to comment on a connection to the law, which tribal retailers oppose.

A state police officer noted that the tribe removed a "no mail, no rail" sign that was painted on a railroad bridge on the reservation.
