HHS Secretary worried about 'alarming' obesity in Indian Country
About 80 percent of adults and over half of children in Indian Country are obese, a href=http://www.hhs.gov/>Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius said during a visit to Jemez Pueblo in New Mexico.

"The data out of Indian Country is really alarming," Sebelius told tribal leaders and members yesterday.

Sebelius said the Obama administration is taking steps to combat obesity, particularly among Indian youth. She learned more about a tribal program to encourage healthy eating and exercise on the reservation.

The tribe received a $900,000 two-year grant for the program. Some of the money went to purchase bikes for the Walatowa Bike Club.
