Osage Nation announces results of runoff for chief, assistant chief
The Osage Nation of Oklahoma elected a new principal chief and a new assistant chief.

John D. Red Eagle won the election for chief. He is the current assistant chief.

Scott BigHorse won the race for assistant chief. He is a former state lawmaker.

One of Red Eagle's first major decisions will be an appeal of the tribe's reservation status case. The U.S. Supreme Court gave the tribe until October 22 to file a petition to review the case, The Tulsa World reported.

The 10th Circuit Court of Appeals said the tribe's reservation was diminished by an act of Congress.

Red Eagle and BigHorse will take office on August 4.
