Judge extends PACT Act restraining order for Seneca businesses
A federal judge extended a restraining order that bars the federal government from enforcing the Prevent All Cigarette Trafficking Act against businesses on the Seneca Nation in New York.

The extension allows Aaron J. Pierce, owner of the Seneca Smokeshop, and 141 members of the Seneca Free Trade Association to continue to sell tax-free cigarettes until July 30.

Pierce originally filed the lawsuit, saying the PACT Act would cripple his business by requiring him to address thousands of state and local tax issues.

Some Seneca smoke shops have already shut down their operations because the law also bars the U.S. Postal Service from transporting certain types of cigarette products.
