Ohkay Owingeh in New Mexico will break ground on a $5 million housing project.
The tribe plans to renovate 22 neglected homes in its main village. Youth from the pueblo took part in the surveying and mapping of the homes, and they interviewed elders about the history of the village.
"It's rebuilding the pueblo step by step," Tomasita Duran, the executive director of the Ohkay Owingeh Housing Authorit, told The Santa Fe New Mexican.
The tribe plans to raise more money to renovate another 24 homes in the main village.
