Navajo Nation president loses ruling in campaign for third term
Navajo Nation President Joe Shirley Jr. can't seek a third term, the tribe's Office of Hearings and Appeals ruled.

Tribal election law imposes a two-term limit for the president. Shirley contends the limit conflicts with Dine Fundamental Law, the tribe's traditional law.

The office upheld the election law. Shirley is expected to appeal.

The primary for tribal elections takes place August 3. The general election is scheduled for November 2.
