Turmoil continues within the Hopi Tribe of Arizona, Indian Country Today reports.

The tribal council recently fired its longtime attorney, restarted the tribal newspaper and suspended secretary Mary Felter. The council also nullified an interim government that was in place last year after the resignation of the chairman and vice chairman.

The nullification could affect numerous decisions made by the interim government, ICT reported. Those include actions affecting tribal leasing and mining on the reservation.

The tribe has faced leadership issues for much of the past three years. Former chairman Ben Nuvamsa was the target of numerous ouster attempts and clashed with other tribal leaders.
