Nisqually Tribe drops plan to acquire surplus Navy property
The Nisqually Tribe of Washington won't try to acquire a former U.S. Navy site.

The tribe asked the Bureau of Indian Affairs to acquire a lab and pier on Fox Island. The tribe planned to use law enforcement, natural resource research and as headquarters for Nisqually Aquatic Technologies, its commercial diving company.

The tribe hasn't given a reason for dropping its plan. Residents of the island were opposed to the idea.
