Indian school alumni start campaign to save amphitheater

Alumni at Santa Fe Indian School in New Mexico are worried about the potential loss of the historic Paolo Soleri Amphitheater.

The school hasn't said what will happen to the venue, designed by Paolo Soleri, an architect from Italy.. But former students, people who have attended concerts at the space and residents of Santa Fe are upset that it might be closed or demolished.

"This group is being created by Alumini of the Santa Fe Indian School, in an effort to save a unique and cherished building, that is the Paolo Soleri Ampitheater," a group on Facebook states.

The 19 Pueblo tribes of New Mexico own and operate the school, which is located entirely on trust land. The tribes have launched a major renovation and construction project on the campus and have demolished numerous buildings, some dating to the late 1800s and early 1900s.
