The La Jolla Band of Luiseno Indians of California hosts a walk this Saturday, April 17, in recognition of Sexual Assault Awareness Month.

The Walk for Honor, Walk for Justice will raise awareness of the high rates of sexual violence against American Indian and Alaska Native women. According to the Department of Justice, one in three Native women will be raped in their lifetime and more than six in 10 will be physically assaulted.

Speakers and guests at the event include: Tillie Black Bear, Executive Director of White Buffalo Calf Woman Society from the Rosebud Sioux Tribe, Juana Majel, National Congress of American Indians 1st Vice President and Chair of their Violence Against Native Women Task Force, Jacqueline Agtuca, Clan Star Public Policy Director representing Sacred Circle, A National Resource Center to End Violence Against Native Women, and Adaline Maushardt, Staff Assistant to Congressman Darrell Issa.
