Amnesty International supports First Nations in land case
Amnesty International is backing a group of First Nations in a treaty dispute.

Amnesty says the Canadian government is being unfair to the Hul'qumi'num Treaty Group of British Columbia. The group has been trying to negotiate a treaty.

The group has taken its concerns to the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights, which is part of the Organization of American States. The IACHR agreed to hear the case, saying that the treaty-making process has not been effective.

The B.C. Treaty Commission has only completed treaties with two First Nations in over a decade.

The IACHR is expected to hold a hearing on the merits of the Hul'qumi'num case in October, The Victoria Times Colonist reported.
