The St. Regis Mohawk Tribe of New York has been hailed as a "champion" for minority-owned businesses.

The tribe's Office of Economic Development received the 2010 Minority Small Business Champion Award from the Small Business Administration. It was the first time the tribe was nominated.

“This is recognition for how the St. Regis Mohawk Tribe supports, promotes and contributes to local and regional economies,” Chief James Ransom said in a press release. “We are proud to receive this award and we commend the Office of Economic Development for its achievements.”

The award will be presented at the 12th annual Small Business Excellence Awards Luncheon May 7th in Syracuse.
