CBC News: Canada to expand definition of Indian status
The Canadian government will allow more people to be registered as Status Indians, CBC News reports.

The government lost a case in which Native women who married non-Natives were treated differently than Native men who married non-Natives. The grandchildren of Native women who married non-Natives will now be registered under the Indian Act, CBC said.

More than 45,000 people could be registered as a result of the change.
