Innu leader plans to reverse ban on alcohol on reserve
The newly elected leader of the Mushuau Innu First Nation in Labrador says he will reverse a ban on alcohol on the reserve.

Simeon Tshakapesh says a 2008 referendum on the issue is invalid because it wasn't conducted by secret ballot. According to CBC News, supporters of an alcohol ban lined up on one side of the community gym while opponents lined up on the other side.

Despite the lack of a ballot, the RCMP is enforcing the ban. A sergeant said Tshakapesh has to follow a formal process to rescind it.

Tshakapesh won election by 15 votes, CBC reported.
