Letter: Look to tribes for solution to economic woes
"The Marshall plan was developed for destroyed Europe after World War II. It made Europe into an economic giant. Maybe both political parties need to re-examine it. Ask the American Indians how they developed from a very economic-dependent (welfare), high- unemployment, reservation society to an almost-independent, economic Indian reservation. The Seminole Reservation (sovereign) created the first casino to raise money for the tribe. They challenged Florida all the way to the United States Supreme Court, which said the Seminoles had the right. The casino was/is a Marshall plan for Indian reservation economic development. Casinos fund infrastructure and Indian businesses on and off reservations.

A strong Marshall plan could pull us out of our current recession and fund nuclear plants, modernize dams on rivers, develop new energy resources and more."
