Innu in Quebec continue hunt in protest of land deal
Innu hunters from Quebec have killed over 100 caribou as part of a protest into a land deal that excludes them. The hunt started on Sunday in a protected area of Labrador. It is due to last all week. "What you see is to feed our communities and families, men and women and children," Chief Real Mackenzie of the Matimekush-Lac John First Nation told CBC News. The Innu in Quebec have been left out a deal that covers the Innu in Labrador. The so-called New Dawn Agreement addresses hunting rights and provides the Innu in Labrador with $2 million a year from a hydroelectric project. Get the Story:
