Cherokee tribes discuss sacred site with company
The Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians and the United Keetoowah Band of Cherokee Indians met with Duke Energy to discuss an electrical station near Kituwah, the ancestral Cherokee home.

Kituwah is the birthplace of the Cherokee people. It was home to the tribe's ancestral village and the site of a year-round sacred flame.

Duke already started work on the station, about a half-mile from Kituwah . The company apparently plans to use special building materials and plantings to hide the site from view.
