Wampanoag tribes gain support in sacred site dispute
The San Carlos Apache Tribe of Arizona and the United South and Eastern Tribes are asking Interior Secretary Ken Salazar to reject a controversial wind farm in Massachusetts.

The tribes say the Cape Wind will harm Nantucket Sound, a site sacred to the Aquinnah Wampanoag Tribe and the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe. The Wampanoag tribes are worried about 440-foot-tall wind turbines blocking their view of the sun and disrupting burial grounds.

Salazar has set a March 1 deadline for the tribes, the wind farm developers and other parties to resolve their differences. He says he will make a final decision by April.
