The Ho-Chunk Nation of Wisconsin hopes to attract more students to its charter school. The Niikuusra Community School focuses on grades five through eight. Educators hope to reach more by offering classes to high school students. "Once your students get to be eighth-graders, then they go back into the traditional system of high school," lead teacher Duane Arendt told The Green Bay Press-Gazette. "This allows them to continue here into high school." The school focuses on preserving the Ho-Chunk language and culture. "There's a fear among our elders that once we lose our language, the giants will roam again, according to our traditions," teacher Stuart Beverly told the paper. Get the Story:
