Tigua Tribe looks for economic development
The Tigua Tribe of Texas is looking for ways to boost economic development on the reservation.

The tribe recently received a $124,044 grant from the Department of Health and Human Services for job-training, education and other activities. Another $1.2 million grant from the Department of Commerce will be used to create the Tigua Business Center to promote economic development.

"We're really trying to create a more sustainable and self-determined community," Patricia Riggs, the tribe's director of economic development, told The Contra Costa Times.

The tribe operated a successful casino but had to shut it down due to litigation by the state.
