Alaska corporation seeks to increase Native vote
Doyon Ltd, an Alaska Native regional corporation, has launched a Native vote campaign.

Doyon wants shareholders and Native voters to participate in the upcoming mayor election in Fairbanks. The corporation rated the six candidates on a range of issues affecting the community.

“This is the first time for us to get involved in local municipal elections and actually rate candidates,” Sharon McConnell, the vice president of communications, told The Fairbanks Daily News Miner. “We’re not endorsing anybody, but we rated the candidates on the importance of issues to the Native community, our shareholders and residents of the borough.”

As part of the Get Out The Native Vote initiative, Doyon is hosting a candidates' forum on September 29. The election takes place October 6.
