Shakopee Tribe donates $320K for abuse victims
The Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community announced a donation of $320,000 to the Family Advocacy Center of Northern Minnesota.

The money will help the center provide services to victims of child abuse, domestic violence, and sexual assault. According to the tribe, 43 percent of the people who have used the center come from the Red Lake, Leech Lake and White Earth reservations.

"Those who are most vulnerable need the support of an organization like the Family Advocacy Center. It can help them recover from devastating experiences and hopefully go on to live productive, happy lives," said Shakopee Chairman Stanley R. Crooks.

The tribe donated $200,000 to help start the center, which is a joint project of the Red Lake Nation, North Country Health Services, MeritCare Clinic, the Midwest Children's Resource Center and other partners. The center is located in Bemidji.
