The Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe of Massachusetts swore in the justices to its first court on Monday. Henry Sockbeson, a member of the Penobscot Nation of Maine, will serve as chief justice. Rochelle Ducheneaux, a member of the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe of South Dakota, and Robert Mills, who is Mashpee, are also on the court. "I think it's a great day for the tribe," Sockbeson said at the swearing-in, The Cape Cod Times reported. "I'm very pleased to be a part of the start of the tribal court here."
