Northern Arapaho firm receives $1M from DOJ
A business owned by theNorthern Arapaho Tribe of Wyoming will share in a $1 million grant from the Department of Justice.

Northern Arapaho Tribal Industries and partner Westat Inc. will use the money to address gaps in Indian Country crime statistics and current reporting methods. The effort will help more tribes become eligible for the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance (JAG) program.

The grant will also be used to gather data on American Indians in the criminal justice system and on crimes committed in Indian Country. “These funds will have a long-term positive impact in Indian Country by increasing tribes’ eligibility to receive vital JAG funding,” Attorney General Holder said in a press release.

“This project will also help the Department better understand and assist tribes with their criminal justice challenges,” said Holder.

The grant was awarded as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.
