Stillaguamish Tribe supports water toxin test
The Stillaguamish Tribe of Washington is supporting a study of contaminants in the Stillaguamish River.

The tribe is worried that toxins from prescription drugs and pharmaceutical waste are affecting salmon in the river. A two-year study by the U.S. Geological Survey should determine the extent of chemicals in the water.

“There’s some pretty incredible data that’s going to come out of the study that people need to know,” wildlife biologist Jennifer Sevigny told The Everett Herald. “We need to reprogram ourselves to live differently and be more responsible.”

The tribe and the USGS previously conducted a study in 2006 that identified sources of toxins in the river.
