The Canadian government named 10 people as advisers to the Indian Residential Schools Truth and Reconciliation Commission.

The Indian Residential School Survivor Committee represens seven First Nations, two Inuit nations and one Metis group. They will help the Truth and Reconciliation Commission gather stories from residential school survivors and share them with Canada.

About 150,000 First Nation, Inuit and Métis children attended residential schools. Many suffered emotional, physical and sexual abuse in an attempt to stamp out their cultures.

The Canadian government apologized for the school system and created a $1.9 billion settlement fund for former students.
